Tuesday 1/19/16 –   The HR Office as a Financial Resource: Implementing College Savings as a Voluntary Benefit

    Objective:

The PA 529 College Savings Program is a no-cost, easy to implement voluntary benefit administered by the PA Treasury Department.  Learn how we can help your company develop a plan to implement this voluntary benefit to employees, assist your HR/Payroll department with a tailored communications plan, and answer any questions your employees may have.  We are available to provide your workplace with information on the benefits and best ways to save for college with the PA 529 College Savings Program, including direct deposit programs.

    Learning objectives of the presentation:

    1. Participants will be able to see why saving for college is an important component of a company’s benefit package.
    2. Participants will be able to gauge employee’s knowledge & perceptions of college savings.
    3. Participants will be able to train staff on the benefits of a 529 college savings account, offer various workplace support activities, and assist employees with enrollment/payroll contributions.

This presentation provides HR Professionals with an overview of the PA 529 College Savings Program and its PA 529 at Work outreach.  The program seeks to build a foundation on the current landscape of college affordability, why a college education is important, and how employers can support employees that want to save in the same manner as a retirement account.  During the presentation, at least 2-3 interactive questions/surveys are asked of attendees.  Takeaway materials include brochures, one-page flyers, & other materials (also available electronically).

The presentation covers the following 5 topics in greater detail.

    • Why is college savings important?
    • How do I determine what information about saving for college by staff needs?
    • How do I implement a college savings option at my workplace?
    • What benefits will my employees receive by saving through a 529 program?
    • How do I teach my staff how to open a 529 account and start payroll deduction?

This session will address how employers can offer the PA 529 Program within the workplace, what the benefits of a 529 plan are, how to offer payroll contributions, and cover all the additional workplace outreach that is available.
